The CREAR, active since beginning of 2005, has been promoted by the Department of Energy Engineering (DE) "S. Stecco"; it merges several Departments of the University: Energy Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications, Agronomic Sciences and Agro-forestry Land Management, Rural Economy and Land Resources, Environmental Forestry Sciences and Technologies, Chemistry and Geology. CREAR thus merges different skills into a single body, creating the critical mass necessary to carry out the multidisciplinary activities needed in this sector. The members of the Centre already have on-going and past collaborations in the framework of EU supported R&D and dissemination projects in biomass.
CREAR is doing research work and system analysis on renewable energy technologies, such as integration of PV and wind systems with hydrogen generation technologies, biomass and bioenergy, dynamic simulation of the thermal behaviour of buildings, also using innovative components, energy certification of buildings, as well as advanced design of co-generation plants. It is also studying decentralized energy generation, focusing its attention on small-scale systems.
