Welcome to the Aquaterre webpage |
AQUATERRE is the acronym for: “Integrated European Network for biomass and waste reutilisation for Bioproducts”. The project started on the 1st of April 2008, and is funded through the “Coordination Action” instrument of the 7th Framework Programme of the EU.
The project activities are implemented by the AQUATERRE Consortium that has eighteen (18) participating partners. The AQUATERRE Project partners are from the EU and associated countries in a network aiming map existing biomass feedstocks .
Moreover, AQUATERRE will produce the first European data-base (EUBIDA) where biomass feedstocks in Europe will be quantified and qualified.
At the end of the Project (May 2010) the “White Book of Biomass” will be published which will summarize gaps of knowledge identified during the project and will establish guidelines and good practices for future strategies for farmers and policy makers.
AQUATERRE will be the establishment of EU sanctioned guidelines for farmers and policy makers as to the best biomass sources to cultivate according to region, climate, policy, lifecycle assessment, technical barriers, processing, access, costs, etc. This will fully incorporate Life Cycle Analysis of biomass production practices, transportation, and storage of bio-products.
New tendencies, pilot programs, innovative tools for assessing the suitability of different types of land, climates, etc., for different biomass sources will be find out from an overview of the current status of research activities. The possible implementation and extension of biomass best sources in different European areas will be considered, as well as their limitations and constraints such as technological barriers, socio-economical impacts, costs and sustainability.
